Pono's Pro Classic series was introduced in 2010, and for over 10 years was Pono's most competitive price fighter to quality Hawaiian made ukuleles. Until 2023, there was nothing that sat in the price-point in-between Pono's Basic range ($749 - 849) and the Pro Classic range (approx $2000). The Pro Classic series was popular for having the highest grade timber available (Master Grade), being custom-level-quality, and being half the price of an equivalent Hawaiian-made ukulele.
 
The only difference between the Pro Classic series and the new Oihana series is that the Oihana series only has top binding, compared to the Pro Classic which had both top, and bottom binding, a non-issue for those looking to save hundreds of dollars, and get a ukulele with the highest grade timber available (Master Grade). Every Pono Oihana ukulele has all Master Grade timber, a Macassar Ebony fretboard, bridge, faceplate and tail-piece, a custom crafted bone-nut and saddle, grover machine heads, and the same quality craftsmanship all Pono ukuleles are known for, finished off with flame maple top-binding, a stunning touch.
